Last week was not fun. In fact, it was horrible, downright emotionally exhausting, heart-breaking, and a roller coaster that seemed to keep me with that feeling you get when you lose your stomach after each drop. Of course, the last part is hearsay... I stay away from roller coasters.
Without going into too many details- or the least amount of details as possible- the economy stinks. School debt stinks. And friends having to start the job search again double-stinks. This past weekend as I was trying to process all that had happened, I stumbled upon an article linking some economic adviser to being paid lots of money by companies who received loads from the bailout. And I let loose. D
After this was out of my system, I decided to spend the weekend trying to be productive and keep my mind off of other things... or take out my aggression in the flower beds I wanted to change in our front yard. So after a couple of hours of digging and tackling the old shrubs (which D sold on craigslist- yeah, I know, I didn't think it could be done either), a trip to a local nursery and interruptions by the roofing company and insurance adjuster, the Orange and White football game, and dinner with friends & the Final Four, we finally finished Sunday evening. Here are some pictures of our work:

praying for all of you. and the front yard looks great! way to turn some bad feelings into productivity!!!
i definitely identify with the whole feeling of being out of control and "doing" stuff because it needs to be done and i can control that. since i found out all the news Sunday, i have cleaned out elias and elena's rooms and closets (a couple lawn size bags of misc stuff), cleaned out the playroom and playroom closet (more lawn bags), cleaned out the coat closet downstairs (at least 8 phone books in the trash!), rented a carpet cleaner and steam cleaned the whole downstairs plus the upholstered furniture, and washed, dried, and folded at least 4 loads of laundry.....
hmmm, control freak? maybe a little.
=)
the yard does look super. nice work.
i've been distracting myself and controlling something a little less healthy than a clean house. maybe i should switch to that. or...jen...if you want to do something else, i can give you the code to my garage and you can go for it...whatever you want...clean away!! =)
lissie- LOL
hi les. we haven't talked on the phone recently, and i'm so sad to hear that you're having to deal with something that makes you so down. it breaks my heart. i hope that your week is off to a better start. this economy does stink. it makes me wish i could be stuck in college forever. or work a part-time job [which may be happening when we move] that won't hurt so bad if i get laid off or can't transfer. your yard looks great. you and D are doing amazing home improvement projects - not that i think you needed it - your house is adorable. :)
Jen- Thanks for the prayers. I'm totally with you on the control freak thing.
Lissie- We have missed you. Prayers and hugs!
Magan- It has been too long since we talked. I'll try to call you sometime this weekend. Home improvement projects are so fun. And it's ours!
